When do you choose for a boat window of acrylic?
Acrylic is most often used as a plastic boat window by the yacht and shipbuilding industry. This material is optically very pure and it has a very high light transmission of 92%. We have acrylic in stock, also known as Plexiglas, in more than 10 transparent colours in 5, 6 and 8 mm thick. All types can be ordered cut-to-size through our webshop. These sheets are easy to fabricate. The fabrication possibilities of acrylic are sawing, milling, laser-cutting, bending, drilling, glueing, polishing and sanding. Fabrications are performed by PyraSied only for the business customer. Private individuals can order cut-to-size free of charge via the webshop. This also applies to polycarbonate.
When do you choose for a boat window of polycarbonate?
Polycarbonate is more impact resistant than acrylic. It is even 250 times stronger than glass! This material is therefore very suitable if the window must be able to take a beating. We recommend this plastic if it is a window used in a seaworthy yacht. In addition, polycarbonate is fire retardant, it has the fire class B1. We have polycarbonate in stock in clear, smoke brown and anthracite in various thicknesses. The fabrication possibilities of polycarbonate are sawing, milling, bending, drilling, polishing and sanding. Click here to view our full range of polycarbonate boat windows.
