Greencast® is an extremely high-quality cast acrylic entirely made from 100% recycled pre- and post-consumer acrylic. Greencast® is a cast acrylic with all the excellent qualities of cast PMMA/Plexiglas. Greencast® can now also be ordered in a number of smoke shades. Cast acrylic is optically more crystal clear than extruded acrylic and is available in more different colours and thicknesses. Due to the casting production method, the sheet has some thickness tolerance.

Greencast® is the most sustainable and especially green choice in the acrylic world. Recycled clear acrylic is crystal clear sheet material and very easy to work with. The material is also colourfast and UV resistant. The main advantage of this material is that it can be recycled time and time again and it can be reused. It is a circular material. PyraSied can, of course, take back the material after use to recycle it again. So, all good reasons to choose recycled Greencast®!

The Greencast® recycled smoke shades are the durable, circular variants of the normal cast smoke colour collection.

    Stock Greencast® recycled smoke shades

PyraSied has Greencast® 100% recycled cast acrylic in stock in various variants: clear, white, black, coloured, fluorescent and opal (PyraLed® 4 Greencast® version). These variants are standard colours in certain thicknesses and can be ordered directly via the webshop or via e-mail.

These recycled smoke shades are in stock in 3, 5 and 8mm. The maximum sheet sizes are 3050x2030x3mm, 3050x2030x5mm and 3050x2030x8mm. We have one smoke shade colour in our Greencast® collection, namely the 71021 smoke brown. In addition to the smoke shade, we also have three shades of anthracite in stock in 100% recycled acrylic, namely the 71075 light grey, the 712086 warm grey and the 71087 anthracite grey. These colours are very suitable for use as boat windows for example.

Greencast® is part of our collection of environmentally friendly plastics. Here you will find all different stock colours in Greencast® 100% recycled acrylic, but also other collections such as Smile Plastics and the Durat® Palace collection. Those are design sheets that are (partly) made of recycled plastic waste.

    Other recycled transparent colours Greencast®

Colours other than the stock types can be cast with a certain minimum order quantity. Ask our Sales & Support department (sales@pyrasied.nl) for more information.

    Application possibilities

Greencast® is a cast acrylic with all the good characteristics of cast PMMA / Plexiglas. This allows recycled acrylic to be used for the same applications as normally cast (not recycled) acrylic. The material is particularly suitable for projects where sustainability is very important. Greencast® is often used in shop interiors, stand- and set constructions and the signing branch as secondary windows, glazing, showcases, displays, protective covers, furniture and wall presentations for example. This material is less suitable for very demanding optical applications such as light guide plates. For this, we advise using standard cast acrylic.

Please take a look at our Acrylic Community for some examples of applications with transparent acrylic.

    Fabrication possibilities

Acrylic is very easy to fabricate. Fabrication possibilities: cutting, milling, laser-cutting, oven bending, bonding, drilling, faceting, polishing, sanding and printing. Do you want more information about how to fabricate acrylic yourself? Take a look at our acrylic fabrications page. Here you can find tips and tricks about the fabrication possibilities of acrylic.

These fabrications can be performed by PyraSied if desired. We deliver from our excellently equipped workshop – where high-tech machinery and traditional craftsmanship ensure optimum results, completely tailored to your drawing or design.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    How is acrylic recycled?

The collected acrylic goes to a company that will remove the PE protective foil of the material. This foil is recycled separately and can be used for roadside poles and sheet piling for example. Then, the residue of the acrylic sheets, tubes et cetera will be shredded into small blocks and is going to be driven in big bags to the acrylic factory.
In a closed vessel, the acrylic, without the addition of oxygen, is heated such that the polymeric plastic disintegrates into the separate "links" where that polymeric resin was composed. These links, the basic building stone, is called monomer. In this case, we make from polymethyl methacrylic (pmma) a monomethyl acrylic (mma). This is a quite simple and clean process. Monomer is vapour at high temperatures. This vapour is collected and - compare this with the combustion of Gin - by cooling in a downward side branch from the top of the vessel, the vapour becomes a liquid again - but in another vessel. The liquid is then completely purified with a filter, so that the colours are removed, leaving a completely clear liquid. The filter residue of this purification is used to heat the recycling installation. The minimal residues, which are left over after combustion - together with the dust particles from the smoke filters- are eliminated. These fractions are very small and not particularly toxic. It is mainly carbon.
The filtered clean monomer is then used to make new, beautifully bright or coloured acrylic sheets, but now from 100% recycled material. This sheet is called Versato® Greencast.

    Can I purchase Greencast® 100% recycled acrylic?

Yes, you can purchase Greencast® online via our web shop. You can also purchase this material via the telephone via our plastic specialists.
We have Greencast® 100% recycled acrylic on stock in:
    Clear: 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 and 20 mm
    White: 3mm
    Black: 3mm
    Colours: 3, 8mm

Is Greencast® 100% recycled acrylic identical to ‘virgin’ clear acrylic?

The characteristics of Greencast® acrylic is 99% identical to ‘virgin’ clear acrylic: a very stable plastic with unprecedented clarity that does not yellow and can be used for many useful, technical or beautiful applications.
The VICAT softening temperature is slightly lower and the clarity of the material is slightly less. This is only noticeable when the light passes through the sheet over minimal 50mm.
Greencast® is just as cast acrylic:
    - extremely colour fast
    - very stable
    - Hardly aging mechanical, optical and thermal properties

Is it also possible to recycle Greencast® 100% recycled material?

Yes, this is possible! If you have acrylic that you do not use anymore, please contact us! (sales@pyrasied.nl)

Does acrylic have a cradle-to-cradle certification?

We have done research with the EPEA, the certificating authority of the cradle-to-cradle organization. That is absolutely feasible and a certificate is possible. The lowest grey level is undoubtedly achievable.
However, for a certification range, PyraSied is a distributor dependent on its producers. Given the time and money to invest, this is not a simple decision for a medium-sized manufacturer, even if we offer financial support in this regard.

What is the difference between cast acrylic and extruded acrylic?

There are two main types of acrylic, cast and extruded acrylic. An advantage of cast acrylic is that it is easy to produce in small quantities, which offers flexibility. Extruded acrylic has the advantage that it hardly knows any thickness tolerance.

When do you choose for acrylic and when do you choose for polycarbonate?

Acrylic is optically more pure than polycarbonate. Polycarbonate, on the other hand, is much more impact-resistant than acrylic, but yellows faster.
