Greencast® is an extremely high-quality cast (clear) acrylic that is completely made from 100% recycled pre- and post-consumer acrylic. Greencast® is a cast acrylic with all the good properties of cast PMMA / Plexiglas. Cast acrylic is optically more pure than extruded acrylic and is available in more different colours and thicknesses. Due to the casting production method, the sheet has some thickness tolerance.
Recycled clear acrylic is very optically pure sheet material and very easy to work with. Greencast® is the most sustainable and especially green choice in the acrylic world. Greencast® acrylic is optically very pure material and is UV-resistant. Colours other than the stock types can be cast with a certain minimum order quantity. So, all good reasons to choose recycled Greencast®!
PyraSied has Greencast® 100% recycled acrylic on stock in clear (3mm – 12mm), black (3mm), white (4 – 5mm) and Opal acrylic (3mm).
Also, our translucent colours can be made out of acrylic that is completely recycled. Please get into contact with our sales department for the possibilities of Greencast® acrylic. You can send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Greencast® acrylic can be used for the same applications as for ‘virgin’ acrylic. (Recycled) acrylic is often used as secondary windows, temporary glazing, indoor glazing, showcases, displays, protective covers, furniture, wall presentations or as other optically pure sheet material. Greencast® material is less suitable for very demanding optical applications such as light guide plates.
Please take a look at our Acrylic Community for some examples of applications with transparent acrylic.
Sawing, milling, bonding, drilling, faceting, polishing, matting and printing.

Well-known brand names for acrylic (pmma) are Plexiglass®, Versato®, Altuglas® and Astariglas®.

The collected acrylic goes to a company that will remove the PE protective foil of the material. This foil is recycled separately and can be used for roadside poles and sheet piling for example. Then, the residue of the acrylic sheets, tubes et cetera will be shredded into small blocks and is going to be driven in big bags to the acrylic factory.
In a closed vessel, the acrylic, without the addition of oxygen, is heated such that the polymeric plastic disintegrates into the separate "links" where that polymeric resin was composed. These links, the basic building stone, is called monomer. In this case, we make from polymethyl methacrylic (pmma) a monomethyl acrylic (mma). This is a quite simple and clean process. Monomer is vapour at high temperatures. This vapour is collected and - compare this with the combustion of Gin - by cooling in a downward side branch from the top of the vessel, the vapour becomes a liquid again - but in another vessel. The liquid is then completely purified with a filter, so that the colours are removed, leaving a completely clear liquid. The filter residue of this purification is used to heat the recycling installation. The minimal residues, which are left over after combustion - together with the dust particles from the smoke filters- are eliminated. These fractions are very small and not particularly toxic. It is mainly carbon.
The filtered clean monomer is then used to make new, beautifully bright or coloured acrylic sheets, but now from 100% recycled material. This sheet is called Versato® Greencast.
The characteristics of Greencast® acrylic is 99% identical to ‘virgin’ clear acrylic: a very stable plastic with unprecedented clarity that does not yellow and can be used for many useful, technical or beautiful applications.
The VICAT softening temperature is slightly lower and the clarity of the material is slightly less. This is only noticeable when the light passes through the sheet over minimal 50mm.
Greencast® is just as cast acrylic:
- extremely colour fast
- very stable
- Hardly aging mechanical, optical and thermal properties
Yes, this is possible with a minimum order quantity. Please contact our sales department for further information. You can contact us via Sales@pyrasied.nl.
Yes, this is possible! If you have acrylic that you do not use anymore, please contact us! (email@example.com)
We have done research with the EPEA, the certificating authority of the cradle-to-cradle organization. That is absolutely feasible and a certificate is possible. The lowest grey level is undoubtedly achievable.
However, for a certification range, PyraSied is a distributor dependent on its producers. Given the time and money to invest, this is not a simple decision for a medium-sized manufacturer, even if we offer financial support in this regard.
There are two main types of acrylic, cast and extruded acrylic. An advantage of cast acrylic is that it is easy to produce in small quantities, which offers flexibility. Extruded acrylic has the advantage that it hardly knows any thickness tolerance.
Acrylic is optically more pure than polycarbonate. Polycarbonate, on the other hand, is much more impact-resistant than acrylic, but yellows faster.
