Opal acrylic tubes are made of extruded acrylic and have a high-gloss surface. These types of tubes are often used by the light industry because they spread light nicely evenly (diffused). Opal tubes have a light transmission of 34%. If you are looking for a tube with higher light transmission, you can choose light opal tubes with a satin surface. All tubes can be ordered per full-length of 2 meters and half-length of ± 1 meter.
Acrylic opal tubes are standard in stock in diameters of Ø 20 up to 250 mm with a wall thickness of 3 mm thick. In addition to opal tubes, we also have transparent tubes of cast acrylic, extruded acrylic and polycarbonate.
The opal XT tubes are often used in the lighting industry because of the beautiful light diffusion. This opal tube is limited UV stabilized. That is why we do not recommend this tube for long-term outdoor applications. For inspiration, please take a look at our Acrylic Community.

There are two main types of acrylic, cast and extruded acrylic. An advantage of cast acrylic is that it is easy to produce in small quantities, which offers flexibility. Extruded acrylic has the advantage that it hardly knows any thickness tolerance.
Acrylic is optically more pure than polycarbonate. Polycarbonate, on the other hand, is much more impact-resistant than acrylic, but yellows faster.
It is possible to order samples of clear, satin or opal tubes. These samples are meant to be able to look at the type of tube and its surface. Since we only sell tubes and rods per full length, we do not have residues. That is why it is not possible to order samples of every diameter and wall thickness.
