The PETG clear satin/satin 3mm diffuser is a clear PETG sheet with a two-sided satinated surface. Because the sheet is clear, the light transmission is very high. The satinated surface on both sides of the sheet does offer a bit of diffusivity.
The PETG clear satin/satin 3mm has a two-sided satin surface, is 2mm thick and has a light transmission of 78%. This is very high for a classic opal sheet. The light transmission refers to the amount of light that comes through the diffuser. It is measured on the other side of the light diffuser than where the light source is positioned. The diffusivity, a score that refers to how well the light is scattered, is 0.20. That gives the PETG clear 3mm a distance factor of 5.0. This means that the distance between the diffuser and the leds needs to be 5,0 times larger than the distance between the led strips or led button cells themselves to get a nice and diffuse light result. You need to have plenty of space available to get a diffuse, even light result.
The PETG clear diffusers are part of our collection with standard diffusers. These diffusers are the classic, 30% light transmission (opal) sheets and fit well with classic light sources and situations with plenty of space between diffuser and light source. These professional and advanced diffusers are more efficient than the standard (opal) sheets. Efficiency refers to how well a diffuser performs. It is a measurement that combines the light transmission and the diffusivity. An efficient diffuser costs more to purchase, but earns itself back by saving energy and increasing the light output.
The PETG clear is made from PETG. PETG is an extrusion product. Light diffusers from PETG are impact resistant and chemically resistant. They can be vacuum formed, because the material becomes soft at a low temeprature. The material has a minimum amount of thickness tolerance.
PETG is fire retardant and has the same fire classification as polycarbonate, Bs1d0 according to the European classification EN13501. Because of this classification, PETG may be used in public spaces. And because PETG produces less poisonous fumes than polycarbonate, PETG is the only transparent plastic that is allowed by the fire department at airports.
PETG is not UV stable in itself. But some of the PETG diffusers in our assortment are developed with a UV protective layer, allowing safe use outside. Please check if the chosen diffuser has UV protection when you plan to use the diffuser outside.
The PETG clear in 3mm thickness is in stock in sheet size 3050mm x 2050mm. If you need a smaller size for your application, we gladly offer material cut to size.
The PETG clear satin/satin is also available in the same sheetsize in 2mm thickness.
The PETG clear satin/satin 3mm is a diffuser that offers a high level of light transmission. If you need a diffuser that keeps most of the emitted light, this sheet is an excellent choice. And with the minimum amount of thickness tolerance and impact resistance of PETG, this diffuser can be applied in many circumstances. You can use the PETG clear satin/satin 3mm for light fixtures, profiles, signing and displays. Barfronts, signing and other esthetic applications are also possible.
Due to the excellent fire classification, this diffuser may be used in public spaces. And because it barely emits any toxic smoke, PETG is the only transparent plastic that may be used in airports.
Are you looking for a standard opal sheet made from PETG that offers more diffusivity? The PETG AR030 3mm is a great alternative. This sheet transfers less light, but can be placed close to the light source while still ginving a nice and even light result.
For constructive applications like floors, walls and full bars and desks, we recommend a thicker diffuser, like our PyraLed®3 10mm or the PyraLed® OPY3 satin/satin 10mm. These diffusers are made from cast acrylic. Diffusers with these thicknesses are not available in PETG.
