The Setacryl GS 2002 light diffuser is made from cast acrylic and offers a higher light diffusivity than most standard opal sheets.
The Setacryl GS 2002 5mm has a two-sided gloss surface, is 5mm thick and with a diffusivity of 0.91 it spreads the light well on a short distance from the light source. The diffusivity is a score that refers to how well the diffuser scatters the light. Because of the high diffusity, the distance factor is just 1.1. This means that the distance between the diffuser and the leds needs to be 1.1 times larger than the distance between the led strips or led button cells themselves to get a nice and diffuse light result. The light transmission of the Setacryl GS 2002 is 41%. The light transmission refers to the amount of light that comes through the diffuser. It is measured on the other side of the light diffuser than where the light source is positioned.
The Setacryl GS 2002 diffusers are part of our collection with standard diffusers. These diffusers are the classic, 30% light transmission (opal) sheets and fit well with classic light sources and situations with plenty of space between diffuser and light source. They are good diffusers in relationship to their price. Do you need a diffuser that is more efficient and keeps more of the light, please check our professional and advanced light diffusers.
These professional and advanced diffusers are more efficient than the standard (opal) sheets. Efficiency refers to how well a diffuser performs. It is a measurement that combines the light transmission and the diffusivity. An efficient diffuser costs more to purchase, but earns itself back by saving energy and increasing the light output.
The Setacryl GS 2002 is made from cast acrylic. Light diffusers from cast acrylic have the best light technical properties and are optically clear, UV-stable and colourfast. Because of this, the diffusers can be used inside and outside and the colour will not be influenced by the sun. The fire classification of cast acrylic is E according to fire norm EN 13501. This is the European (EU) classification.
Cast acrylic can be produced in smaller batches relatively easy. This allows us to offer the broadest collection of thicknesses and types in cast acrylic.
The Setacryl GS 2002 with a two-sided gloss surface in 5mm thickness is in stock in sheet size 3050mm x 2030mm. If you need a smaller size for your application, we gladly offer material cut to size.
The Setacryl GS 2002 gloss/gloss is also available in the same sheetsize in 3mm thickness.
If you are looking for a standard diffuser with a high level of diffusivity and a low distance factor, the Setacryl GS 2002 5mm is a great choice. And since cast acrylic has excellent light technical properties, this diffuser can be used in many circumstances. You can use the 5mm version of the Setacryl GS 2002 with two-sided gloss surface for barfronts, signing, decors, displays and other esthetic applications. Because the material is UV stable and the colour is not influenced by the sun, you can safely apply it inside and outside.
From Setacryl, we also offer the GS 2006 gloss/gloss 5mm. This sheet offers a higher level of diffusivity, but loses some of the light transmission. That makes the GS 2006 ideal when you have less space available between diffuser and light source.
For constructive applications, like floors, walls and full bars and desks, a thicker diffuser is more suited. Two examples are the Satinglas 51100 satin/satin 10mm or 15mm and the PyraLed®3 satin/satin in 10mm or 20mm thickness. These sheets have a high level of diffusivity and are strong enough for constructive use.
Cast acrylic has thickness tolerance, making it less suitable for the use in light fixtures and profiles. Extruded acrylic (XT) has minimum thickness tolerance, making it a perfect match for these applications. A higher level of diffusivity is also necessary, given the lower distance between light source and diffuser in a light fixture. The PRIMO® XT N385 3mm with a light transmission of 29% and a diffusivity of 0.88 has a low distance factor and is well suited for light fixtures.

Diffusers made from cast acrylic contain less tension than diffusers from extruded acrylic. The Setacryl GS 2002 is made from cast acrylic and can be fabricated easily.
