A two-way mirror is a mirror where you can see through, but that is also reflecting. The two-way mirror has a thin layer of foil on one side of a clear, extruded acrylic sheet. The two-way mirror is available in various colours. The coloured two-way mirrors have a coloured surface on the acrylic side and a silver surface on the other side.
The mirror coating is very vulnerable. As such, one should not apply any kind of tape to the mirror’s surface, even if it’s temporary. Removing the tape will damage the coating. You should also avoid the use of any acid materials. See the FAQ for more information.
Important: We do not have silver two-way mirrors, but we have silver spy mirrors on stock in 3mm.
Fabrication: Two-way mirrors cannot be cut to size (neatly), the foil can peel off on the edges. Two-way mirror can be laser-cut or milled to size. That is why a cut to size order has a longer delivery time (+/- 3 working days).

There is a difference between two-way mirrors and spy mirrors. Two-way mirror is a mirror with a very high light transmission and is therefore not suitable as a spy mirror. A spy mirror has a light transmission of 15%. For this application, we have special spy mirrors in silver on stock.
The two-way mirror is suitable for visual shielding, but is mainly used because it is having a very attractive appearance combined with striking effects. In fact, the material is very new and we think that we will see a lot of unexpected applications of this material. It is important to mention that the two-way foil is not water- and weather proof and cannot be used for outdoor applications.

Milling and laser-cutting.
With laser-cutting, care should be taken for excessive heating of the mirror layer also then, the mirror layer becomes matte. The mirror layer should always be on the laser-head side. It is important that the white protection foil is removed as it reflects the infrared of the laser.

These mirror sheets can be used in wet conditions and also (to a certain degree) outside. The mirror foil should be on the side which is the least exposed to the sun. The foil is not 100% UV-stable. It is developed for the inside-side of glass!
The adhesion of the foil is good, however not good enough to be cut with a circular sawing-machine. Cutting the sheet to size with a sawing machine will cause delamination of 1 to 2 mm foil at the edge. Milling and laser-cutting does not cause this problem.

The mirrors can be cleaned with a soft non-woven cloth. You can use water with some detergent, household vinegar or cleaning-alcohol. PyraSied recommends to use Burnus antistatic cleaner or VuPlex. VuPlex gives a protective layer and removes visually small scratches. PyraSied can supply these multifunctional cleaners. You should never use Glassex, strong solvents, schotch-brite and other abrasive products.
When the material has scratches, you can remove those by sanding the front side of the material with a grain 1200 (depending on the deepness of the scratch) followed by polishing the material with a soft cotton and a polishing agent.
It is possible to attach the mirror with mirror holders, spacers or with sealant on a wall. (you can only do this once! When removing the mirror, the mirror film will be damaged). You should use an acid-free silicone sealant when attaching the mirror sheets to walls or other substrates. As the mirror sheets do expand and contract with temperature, the minimum thickness of the sealant layer is 2 mm behind the sheets. You can also use natural foam tape with a minimum thickness of 2mm.
You can not use regular tape or anything acidic, even temporary.
